Waikoitaiti, April 28. Two candidates! were nominated! to-day for the Waikouaiti seat in the General Assembly, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr J. L. Gillies. They were Mr hj. D. Rich, proposed by Mr James Black, s. conded by vir Matthew Todd ; and Mr J. M'Lean, proposed by Mr John Duncan, seconied by Mr John M'Kenzie. A show of hands was taken with the following result:—Rich, 11; M'Lean, 18. A poll was demanded by Mr Todd, and will take place on May 3. About 100 electors were present.
