The‘Wesleyan Chronicle’ hasj ceased publication, and a new Wesleyan organ called the * Spectator and Chronicle ’ has been started, with the Rev. J. C. Symonds as editor. Welcome rains have fallen all over the Colony. They were much wanted. Sydney, April 22. The population of the Colony at the end of last year was 584,000. H.M.S. Pearl has gone to the scene of the James Burnie massacre. The rush to-the Northern Queensland diggings continues. Last month’s Customs revenue shows a decrease. The Assembly negatived the eight hours’ system in Government works. News was received that an earthquake and tidal wave at Lifu, Loyalty Islands, caused loss of life and damage to property. Adelaide, April 22. Giles, the explorer, has reached Lake Finniss, and passed through 320 miles of terrific scrub. He lost his horses, and but for the camels, would have perished. He is convinced that a vast desert exists, having its base near the western shore of Lake Torrens.
