The New Zealand Steam Shipping Company have at length accepted a tender for the new boiler and other repairs to the steamer Wellington. That of Yeoman and Co., of Auckland, was accepted, mainly because the firm contract to do the work in eighteen weeks—a shorter time than the other tenderers required, and because the kauri timber, for new spars, &c,, could be had on the spot, thus saving carriage, and also because the weather at Auckland would be better than at other places. The price of the successful tenderers was L 2,885. The rejected tenders were ; E. W. Mills, Wellington, price L 2,810, time seven months; Kincaid and M‘Queen, Dunedin, L 2,718, nineteen weeks; Robertson and Co., Wellington, 13,164, six months; Fraser and Tinue, Auckland, L 3,445, six months; J. . _ Napier, April 24. Captain Fairchild, of the Luna, endeavored to raise the sunken steam-tug Una, but she is too heavily laden, and too firmly imbedded in the sand. Her decks were tom asunder in the attempt.

The buoy on Pania Rock has been replaced. It is intended to make an experiment on the 450 feet of artesian piping expended on the recent attempt to get water at the Spit. Captain Fairchild purposes placing a charge ©f lithofracteur at the_ lowest attainable point in the pipe, which will be filled with water, and an iron cap fastened on the top. When the explosion takes place, the shock is expected to be sufficient to raise the pipe, or loosen it so that it can be easily drawn out. Doubts are expressed as to the feasibility of the scheme, but it is worth trying. Many cases of sickness are reported, but not serious increase. Doctors differ as to the kind of fever prevalent, and whether it was brought here by immigration ships; but the public has very little doubt on the subject.

Nelson, April 24. A misunderstanding has arisen between the Nelson cricket team and Mr Wix (the captain) on account of the latter not going on to the ground, but deciding to postpone the Interprovincial cricket match, without consulting them.
