Auckland, April 22. t Mr Reynolds has issued a number of invitations for a cruise in the training ship Southern Cross to-morrow.
New Plymouth, April 22. The Superintendent Lad an interview with Mr Reynolds yesterday, and the latter stated that the Governor would remove the wreck of the Paterson to get the river cleared. Messrs Weaver and Fraser, of Fraser and Tinne, Auckland, during the steamer’s stay yesterday, visited the iron sand works. Both expressed satisfaction at the way the works were proceeding, and spoke highly of the workmanship in the erection of the furnace. _ Chuistchubch, April 22. Four accidents occurred in connection with the Governor’s reception yesterday. Two members of the cavalry escort were thrown violently from their horses and severely bruised, but have no bones broken. A trap containing a woman and two children capsized! The trap was smashed, but the occupants were uninjured. A woman was kicked by a horse while standing in the crowd and was seriously hurt. The difference between the Sisters Duvalli and the morning papers continues. The Sisters have issued posters reflecting on the reporters of the morning papers, who now totally ignore the performance of the sisters. The subject of establishing a City Com Exchange is being revived. A private telegram from Invercargill states that one box of the salmon ova received by the Timaru was opened with very unsatisfactory results.
. , Greymouth, April 22. At the annual meeting of the Greymouth Coal Company forty-five shareholders were present, beside a great number of Dunedin shareholders represented by proxy. The mine was declared in good working order and the machmery efficient, only aw&itmg railway completion to supply the port with forty or fifty tons coal daily, until the new shaft is sunk, when the supply would be considerably increased. The estimated depth of the new shaft, 360 feet, would supply coal for fifty or sixty years. The principal items of expenditure on the balance-sheet are Plant and machinery, L 5,204; main shaft, L 10.000; river plant, L 1,039. Among assets, L 3,251 is set down as due on calls. Dr Morice, the representative of the Dunedin shareholders moved that the meeting stand adjourned until May 4, which was carried. The report was circulated by a man just arrived ip town, and believed for a few hours, but on inquiry it proved false, . Auckland, April 22. The magistrate refused bail to Burke, exoaptainof the Fire Brigade, who was arrested on suspicion of incendiarism last night. Flax wet with kerosene, was found in a shed attached to the house, and which was accessible to anyone. A feeling of uneasiness prevails at the evident repeated attempts at arson. The prospectors’ claim at the new Tairaa goldfield has been jumped by miners, who hope the Government will reduce the amount of laud which may be legally held by one party. The monopoly of ground has seriously damaged the prospects of the goldfield, but a considerable ni hj has set] in there, including many from Obinemuri.
Tokomaibibo, April 23. A fire broke out at 1.30 this morning, and consumed a stable belonging to Mrs Held. One noiße and nine sheep, the property ©f Mr Wjber, butcher, were also destroyed. The whole were uninsured.
