The three pri soners came into my place—an accommodation house—shortly after nine o’clock that night All three were the worse of liquor, and they remained for some time.. I went to bed, leaving the men there, and afterwards heard someone say, ‘Don’t strike an bid man I” I then jumped out of bed, and saw the prisoner ixulane catch hold of Lambato and set him on the floor. After quarrelling some time, Phillips and Lambato went outside. Phillips came in, uid afterwards I heard someone say Lamberto had two knives, Bollane then went out, and Pbilups followed him. iGoing out some time after, I found that the three prisoners had gone - down the paddock, and a crowd assembled. Bollane came up, and said, “ I have taken two • stees (?) from him (meaning Lambato), and have given them to Bill Jones. Look at mv hands, they are all over blood.” Part of the figh t occurred on the district road, part on the railway line, and part in the paddock between the two About thirty or forty persons had assembled and during part of the fight I understood 801, , lane to request no Englishmen to interfere.— Daniel Freeman, miner at Chain Hills, saw * the three prisoners in M'Luskey’s store on Sunday night. In consequence of a quarrel in the honsb between Phillips and Lambato, the men Went outside. He then saw Bollate come up With a piece of wood and Phillips with ‘ ft “bucket,. and both were used to Lambate, who afterwards got away. When , Ballane knor.ked Lambato down he had

two knives—a stiletto and a clasp kuife—in his hand. The disturbance lasted hau-an-hour, and t Sjty the prisoners took part in it. I heard . Ballane request no Europeans to interfere.— At this stage of the proceedings Inspector Mai Iwm asked for a remand.
