THE WANDERING HEIR.
To the Editor. . Sir, —I noticed with some pleasure the letters signed “Fairplay” and “I. F. Keogh,” in your'last night’s issue, and hope that the dramatic critic of the ’Guardian ’ will be instructed thereby. It is certainly no credit to a newspaper to allow its reporters to give such erroneous accounts of theatrical performances, especially such as frequently appear in that journal
But it is for another reason that I address these few lines to you, and I will state it as briefly as possible. I went to the Princess. Theatre last evening to see “The Wandering Heir, ’ and came away at the conclusion of the entertainment simply disgusted; and I feel confident that a large number in the lower part house (I cannot say anything abont those in the dress-cirole) had the same feeling as myself. This was in no way caused by Miss Howard, who is undoubtedly an accomplished actress, and always gives a clever interpretation of the parts she sustains ; in fact, from Miss Howard’s actions in the last act, I presume she was not well pleased at the termination of last night’s performance, Th® prologue and first act of the play passed off very well, but the smoothness of the following three acts was greatly marred by the manner in which one of the leading members of the company brought into prominence one of the minor parts, thereby gaining some slight applause from some of the patrons of the pit, while it was really deserving of hisses. I trust that you will pardon me for occupying so much of your space in making this slight grievance, as 1 belong to the class which attends, the theatre to he amused, and not to be j- * Ineulted.
