RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Friday, April 16. (Before T. A. Hansford, Esq., 8.M.) Abusive Language.—Adam Anderson, an hotelkeeper residing in Dunedin, was charged with using abusive language to Mr Rolfe, sta-tion-master at Port Obalmers. The defendant pleaded guilty, and stated he had apologised for his unseemly conduce to Mr Rolfe, who informed the Bench that he was satisfied therewith.. His Worship inflicted the nominal fine of Is, with costs. The defendant, before leaving the Court, placed LI in the hands of Mr Hinchliff, the Clerk of the Court, to be remitted to the Benevolent Institution. Assault.—Robert Gilchrist was charged with assaulting Ung Foy, Chinese laborer, at Carey’s Bay. There being no interpreter present the case was ordered to stand over until Tuesday, plaintiff paying LI into Court for defendant’s expenses, should the judgment be in the latter’s favor. Saturday, April 17.
Drunkenness.—William Thomson and Jas. Langley were each fined ss, or in default twentyfour hours’ imprisonment.
