The charges against Thomas H. Dodson of selling tickets in the monster Derby sweep lottery will be heard to-morrow. “School” was repeated at the Princess’s Theatre last night to a good attendance, and to-night will give place to “East Lynne.” We would remind theatre-goers that Miss Stoneham, a moat painstaking actress, takes her first benefit in Dunedin to-morrow evening. The Government monthly inspection of the City Guards was held by Major Atkinson last evening, when there wore present Band ; One sergeant and eighteen privates ; No. 1 Company: Captain Wales, two lieutenants, five sergeants, one bugler, and thirty-one privates ; Cadets : One lieutenant, two sergeants, and twenty cadets. The parade lasted for over an hour. The railway authorities inform ns that ballast trains conveying material for reclamation purposes run at stated periods, and that all caution is exercised by the engine drivers. The letter of “ A Kensington resident ” yesterday was incorrect in regard to the rate at which the engines were travelling. They were only being driven at a slow pace, and when the approach of the engine from Caversham was observed the other train returned to town.
