A good start was made, and the lot got well away on equal terms, Reprieve, M <QalInm "Mohr, and Haricot being the firs to show in front. At the hill Llama raced up 1 ~^ e P rieve » the trainers’ stand was leading by a length, and four lengths bemnd came Novice, Lord Lyon, Imperial, Haricot, and Fitz Yattendon all together. At the bend Llama and Reprieve were clear of the ruck, which was hearted by Haricot, Imperial, and Fitz-’S attendon. At Cutts’s stand, Reprieve was in tront, with Llama, Novice, Imperial, Haricot, and Lurline close up, while at the back of the course Reprieve was still ahead, leading by two lengths, with Imperial next, Llama, Lurline, Ladybird, and Haricot following on. Passing the trainers’ stand, Haricot was running third, while Imperial still kept the second place, carefully waiting on Reprieve, who still held the pride of place. In turning into the straight, Lurline came up, and having passed Fitzyattendon and Haricot, ran into the third place, and at the distance post Imperial went to the front, and won easily by half a length in advance of Reprieve, Lurline. third, and then two lengths away Ladybird, M'Callmn Mohr, Fitzyattendon, Llama Viva, Neredab, Priam, Melbourne, Haricot, Sultan, Lord Lyon, Diver, and Novice. After the flag fell Melbourne took the lead, and continued in front for more than half the distance, at one period being at le ist twenty lengths ahead • but going up the hill in the last round Lurline and Diver closed on him, and on turning into the straight Lurline was leading by a length. Hu Excellency Sir Hercules Robinson headed the list of winners with L 2.200. THE VIOTORTAN J.C. The committee of the Victoria Racing Club have framed the programmes for the racing season of 1875-6. The four days’ meeting in the sprmg are kept intact. The midsummer day—er Boxing day, which may be substituted—has been very considerably increased, one stake alone doubling m amount any given for past years on this or any other course in the Colonies It is a weight-for-age race, over three miles, consisting of a sweepstakes of 20 sovs. each, with 1,500 sovs. added. Yet a more pleasing fact remains to be recorded. [The committee, viewing with disgust the misuse and false runmug of horses which has marked the racing of the past season in handicaps, have reduced the number and worth of Jbandicap stakes, and supplemented the.weight for age races.
