THE HORRORS OF THE QUEENSLAND FLOODS.
As a sample of the horrors of the Queensland floods, we give the following telegram from Rockhampton, published in the Brisbane * Courier ,“ A disastrous flood has occurred at Boolburra. Upwards of 300 persons have been rescued from drowning by punts built by the railway department. A large number have endured frightful sufferings. Women and children, with little clothing, took refuge in houses and in trees, and were without food for three or four days, A German and his three children have been drowned. A girl fell into the flood, and her sister, in attempting her rescue, was also drowned. A family of the name of Ryder and four others are reported drowned. A canvas township of 800 people has been formed at the two-mile East Bridge. A woman has been icscued from a tree, after being four days without food. Another woman was found by the rescue parties standing up to her neck in water holding a child on her head. Several people have been severely bitten by insects in the water.”
