TOKOMAIRIRO RACES.
SECOND DAY. (Bt Telegraph.] {From our own Correspondent. ) Tokomairiro, April 7, The dead heat between Kildare and Sir Tattoo in the Hurdle Race was run off after the Tokomairiro Handicap. In the first round Sir Tatton fell almost in the same place as did Stackpole early in the afternoon, and rolled over his ridei (T. White, of Winton), who was picked up senseless and remained in that condition fox some hours, the doctors pronouncing him to be suffering from concussion of the brain. Kildare went round for the stakes.
District Handicap, 20 sovs. 1J miles. Open to all horses that have been in toe posses sion and are the bond fide property of the owner foi two months’ prior to the day of the race (within 15 miles of the racecourse), and have not won a race exceeding the amount of the stakes. Mr Philp’s Romeo 1 Mr D. Corsair’s Merry Monarch ... 2 Won by a length, after a good race. Tokomairiro Jockey Club Handicap, 76 sovs. Distance, miles. A sweepstake of L 3 to go to the second horse. Mr Coombes’s Right Bower ■... 2 There were only two starters. Atlas led from the start, but at the three-quarter mile post the Bower collared him, and there ensued a most exciting race home, resulting, as the judge (Mr R. W. Capstick) declared it, in a dead heat, but in the opinion of the bulk of the spectators in a victory for Atlas by half a neck. Mr Goombes entered a protest, on the ground of Atlas’s jockey having struck the Bower, but the stewards disallowed it. The dead beat was run off after the Hack Bace, and was won by two lengths by Atlas, who ’ed from the start. District Hack Race, 10 sovs. 1 mile. Catch weights. No Name 1 Toby , 2
