TOKOMAIRIRO RACES.
FIRST DAY. (By Telegbaph.] (From our own Correspondent.) Tokomaibibo, April 6. There was a good attendance at to-day’s races, but little or no betting. Maiden Plate, of 30 sovs. Distance, miles; open to all horses that have not won an advertised race exceeding Lls, Bothwell f Merry Monarch f ® These two ran a dead head after a really good race. At the start Bothwell led by one length, and kept the same until half the course was run, both horses taking it easy. Then racing commenced, and a game struggle followed, the whips going freely, and resulting in a dead heat on the post. It will be run off after the Flying Handicap. Handicap, 60 sovs. Distance, miles, with a sweepstakes of L2, to be given to the second horse. Envy, 7st 21b 1 Right Bower, Bst 4lb 2 Atlas, Bst 101b 3 Unknown, 7st 0 After one false start the lot got 'away well together. Soon Envy came to the front and held a lead of two lengths all the way, winning by that distance. Right Bower was second and Atlas a good third.
