A PRINTERS’ TOURNAMENT.

A printers’ tournament, being a contest in type setting, took placo on sth December last at Washington, with the following result

Thb Fimt Class. —The type nonpariel.— Time, three hours. The first prize—a solid gold composing stick—won byS, N. Bennerman, who set 6,070 ems; second prize—a solid silver composing stick, full newspaper size—won by K. A. McLean, who set 4,998 ems; third prize—a “ Menamiu’s Enoyeolopsedia of Printing ” — w< >n by W. W. McCollum, who set 4,720 ems. Second Class.—Time, Ih 30a. W. W. Malloney was awarded a silver composing stick, newspaper else, having set 2,278 ems; Frank A. M'Qill, a German silver composing stick, full sice, 3,350 ems; H. W. Hartman, *Harpel’s Typography 3,187 ems. Long Pbuhb Class.— Time, Ih 30m. J. Iv, M Brido was awarded the first class prize, a solid gold composing stick, breastpin size, having set 2,128 ems; G. J. 8. Hunnicutt, * American Enelyclopwiia of Printing,’ 2,037 ems; H. C, Turtleton, a thermometer. 1,988 ems.

The tournament took place in the ‘National Republican ’ office. The decisions were made in accordance with rules previously established, and none were present exept the judges, referee, and proof reader. The tournament was closed with a grand banquet at night, —‘N. Y. Herald.’
