The ketch Fanny, from Oamaru for Gatlin’s Biver, put in this morning. Captain Andrews reports the barque William Gifford and schooners Mera, Owake, and Cyherbis, discharging at Oamaru. The barque Glencoe sailed for Hobart Town this morning. The s.s. Taranaki arrived alongside the railway P*or at 5.45 p.m. yesterday, from-the Northern ports. She left the Mannkau at 5 p.m. on the 18tb, TOfled at Taranaki, Nelson, Picton, Wellington, and Lyttelton, from which latter port she sailed at 5.30 p,m. <m the 23rd with a heavy gale from the S W. and high sea (the wind moderated on the morning of the 24th), and arrived as above. She brings creneral cargo, passengers, acd 109 immigrants, ex Dallam Tower. We thank her purser, Mr EdminBton, for report and exchanges. The Taranaki arrived at 6.45 p.m. yesterday from a round of the Northern ports. After leaving Taranaki she encountered a strong N.E. gale, which compelled her to seek shelter in Current Basin; and on the 22nd, shortly after leaving Wellington met with a fresh N.W. breeze and threatening weather, which veered round to S.S.W.,and by midnight was blowing a whole gale that raised a heavy flea, and so continued until she arrived at Lyttelton at 2 p.m. on the 23rd. Eemained then a couple of nours or so, and then went on again, gale still Strong from S.W., and very heavy sea outside the Peninsula. Steam had to be cased a little, and during several hours of the night, whilst the gale was at its worst, the Taranaki gained scarcely ten miles.
