The race all through did not present many changes, the three leaders keeping their positions and all clearing the jumps beautifully, except Maid of the Mill, who refused the water jump the second time round. Medora and Banjo cleared this together in front, Ivanhoe close behind j but on coming on to the course again from the sand-hills, Medora had unaccountably fallen back, Ivanhoe leading Banjo up the straight. Mr Barton’s gelding was not to be caught, and came in a winner by three lengths, Medora a bad third, Maid of the Mill fourth, Mistletoe fifth. Time, 7min 3sec. So general was the opinion that W. M l Kay had palled Medora, who was a hot favorite, that immediately after the race the stewards met and took evidence from eye-witnesses of his conduct at the particular part of the race complained of. The result of the conference was not made known.

Castaway was muck admired in the paddock, but had too much flesh on him. The Bower was not much .backed, offers to lay-against him being louder than against any otb;r. After two attempts a good start was made, Gamecock cutting eut the running, Tadmor and Castaway close up, Boomerang fourth, and Right Bower last At half a-mile Tadmor had the ie;td and Gamecock was also passed by Castaway, 'vho looked for a time like catching Tadmor, but on the opposite side of the course they were all i; Indian fii e .
