On Thursday the sugars ex Fanny Breslauer, from Mauritius, were offered at auction at the rooms of Messrs Whitelaw and Co. There was a fair attendance of the trade, but they were disinclined to buy, and no lines were placed. The teas' by the Medora are turning out iu good condition, and seem to have been judiciously selected to suit the Dunedin requirements. Ale and beer continue in good supply. . Byass’s triangle and Alsop’s are held for 9s in bond for parcels. Brandy is unaltered in price, but is firm at last quotations. Butter is very scarce and commands Is 4d. Cheese is still purcluseable at 9d. Comsacks, 12s, with a good demand. Candles are firm at The news vTom America of a considerable advance in kerosene is likely to affect prices here, and holders are very fin. ll , although no positive rise has taken place. Tobacco to' advance, so that prices may be considered nominal, as any quotations of to-day might be below the market value on Monday. Messrs Whitelaw and Co. report the following sales of shares during the past week -.—National Insurance, £7s 9d; Standard do, 12s 6d; National Bank, 70s fid tfum div,; Colonial Bank, 20s; Kanieri Lakes, 18s. Sellers National Insurance, 28s fid ; South British, 40s; Standard, 12s fid; Kanieri Lakes, 18s 6a; 1 Albion Brewing Company. 5s s National Bank, 71s fid; Colonial, 265. THE LABOR MARKET. Mr Skene reports for the week ending March 20, that there are very few able tradesmen or servants 'out of work at present. Farm people are wanted, but axe scarce. Wages are as follows:—House girls, .from L 26 to L4O; hotel do, from L 36 to L 52; cooks, houseekers, barmaids, and such, get more, farm men, shepherds, and gardeners; from L 55 to L 65; couples, from L 75 to L9O; road men, from 9s to 10s; town hands, Is and Is fid hy the hour. Masons, carpenters, &c;, from 12s to 15s per day; -mencooks, stewards, waiters, barmen, boots, &c., from 20s to 60s per week. Smart youths, 10s to 15s per week. Storemen for country are asked for.
