THE V.R.C. AUTUMN MEETING. [Special Telegram to the Star.) The following are the results of the principal events at the above meeting:— The Australian Cop, a sweepstakes of twenty sovs each, with 300 sovs added, the second horse to receive fifty sovs, and the third to save his s akes. Two miles and a quarter. Gardiner’s Lurline, 5 yrs, Bst 11b 1 Arthur’s Wollomai, 5 yrs, 7st 71b 2 King’s Benjiroo, 6 yrs, 7st 31b 3 Melbourne was a great favorite. A splendid start was effected, the lot leaving the post in a cluster, with Gloom at their head. The last named conducted them past the stand, closely followed by Benjiroo, Light of Day, Lurline, and M'Callum Mohr. The pace improved after passing the sheds under the hill, the leader leaving, having had enough of it. Lurline then took up the running, and led into the straight. A splendid all the] way up the

straight, Lurline drawing away and winning very easily by two lengths. M‘Callum Mohr was fourth, The Diver fifth, and Calaba sixth. Melbourne could not get through the heavy ground, and was seventh. Time, 4min 25aecs. The winner was loudly cheered.

Betting : 3 to 1 each against Calumny and Lurline; 5 and 6to 1 against any others. Lurline, Calumny, and Newbold got away in front. After the horses were sent away, but before going tar, Zenobia rushed to the front with the Maid of Hawthorne' well up pulling “°}*hle. As the horses passed the railway bridge Wollomai, who had crept up to the front and led for a short distance, was passed by Barmaid, who went away with a strong lead. _As they came to the turn for home Barmaid’s condition began to fail and she fell back, and Calumny led into the straight running, with Lurline in close attendance. Calumny won easy by three lengths, Benjiroo made a rnsh_ and got third place, ten lengths behind Lurline, who was second, Barmaid was fourth, and Latona fifth; Time, 2mins. 14secs. The Keilob Stakes, a sweepstakes of 5 sovs each, with 200 sovs added. One mile and a-half. Coldham’a Light of Day, 3 yrs, 7st lllbs ... 1 Gardiner's Lurline, 5 yrs, lOat 31bs 2 Gioom, Gioom, 4 yrs, Bafc lllbs : ... 3 Ward’s Rory O’More, 6 yrs, 9st 4lbs ... 4 Sennet’s Edith, 3 yrs, 7st Blbs 6 Betting; 6to 4on Light of Day. On the flag falling Gloom Rory O’More, and Edith showed in front, Lurline and Light of Day running together in the rear. As they came round the turn into the straight the horses got together, and up the distance were all running' abreast. Lurline and Light of Day then drew ahead, and after a very fine finish the New Zealand mare was beaten by a short head. Gloom was a close third. Time, 2mins. 55secs. THE GREYMOXJTH MEETING. Our correspondent telegraphs the results of the second day’s races as follows The Goldfields’ Handicap, of 125 sovs, was won by Guy Fawkes, with Septimus second. Yatterina was scratched. The Hurdle Handicap, of 60 sovs, fell to Tommy Dodd; the Borough Handicap, of 50 sovs, to Yatterina, Guy Fawkes being scratched; the Stewards’ Handicap, of 30 sovs, to Guy Fawkes, with Yatterina second, and Sandy third ; and the Consolation Handicap, of 20 sovs, to' Magenta. NAPIER RACES. [By Telegraph.] , Wellington, March 19. The Maiden Plate was won by Arihi’s b. g. Hinana; Wanganui second. The Skurry Stakes was won by Maneys’s Marquis, with Tangatata’s Maori Weed second. The Hawke’s Bay Stakes was won by Maori Weed, and the Flying Stakes by Roney’s Opawa. The races were well contested. THE INTERCOLONIAL CRICKET MATCH. [By Telegraph.] {From our own Correspondent .) The match New South Wales v. Victoria has been won by the former by 77 runs. Victoria in her first innings made 71 runs, and in her second 70; the Welshmen 116 in their first and 102 in their second. For Victoria the highest scores were -In the first iwninp. : Midwinter, 15; Slight, 10; Blackham, 15; Loughnan, 10; and in the second innings : Campbell, 18; Horan, 16; Cooper, 8; Cosstick, 7 —none of the others made higher than five. For New South Wales—ln her first innings Coates made 14; Evans, 11, E. Gregory (not out), 65 ; and Wood, 9; and in their second ; Evans, 31; Gregory, 18; Powell, 20; Spofforth, 13; and N. Thompson, 13—none of the others made higher than three.
