MR JOHN STAMPER REBUTTED.
To the Editor. Sir, It certainly does seem most peculiar that Mr Stamper, after directly alleging that I was indebted to my more imagination for alleged facts in the case Russell v. Filewood now thanks “the reporter of the ‘Times’ for his answer confirming his report as being perfectly true,” of which he “never once entertained a doubt.” This is decidedly an unanticipated reply to my challenge to point out any error that occurred in the * Times ’ report, or a passage for which I was indebted to my imagination. Mr Stamper’s answer has not convinced me that Mr Edward Filewood’s letter contains the alightest>eference to-the ‘Times’ report, lour readers may remember that the Resident Magistrate said the defendant (Filewood) had borrowed money when he was over LIOO in debt, and ordered the immediate payment of the amount claimed (Lll 10s) by the plaintiff • • thirfc y days’ imprisonment. Without stating the loss and inconvenience 1 have sustained, I may conclude by congratufating,Mr Stamper upon his acknowledgement that the ‘Times’ report was not erroneous, as originally described by him -1 am, &c., J ' T-he ‘Times’ Reporter.
