Wellington, March IS. A severe shook of earthquake was felt here , at 5.30 p.m. on Saturday. Tfee Customs revenue for the week is L 5,430, the largest this year. The directors of the Public Hall Company refused an offer from Mr Bates, the comedian, to lease the Theatre for LBSO for twelve months. The last of the Berar’s immigrants will be released from quarantine on Monday. At the New Zealand University’s Council’s last sitting a letter from the Private Secretary to the Governor was read, stating that Sir James Fergusson had written to England applying for a charter for the University. The Government were requested to call the atten*Uon of the Hon. Mr Vogel, by telegraph, to the fact that no answer had been made to Sir James Fergusson’s application. It was remlved , that the secretaries of affiliated institutions should forward to the Registrar of the University the names of students passing at their ‘ respective institutions the matriculation examinations, and the date of their passing, and that every January the Registrar of the University publish the names of all students who ha /e matriculated during the year, with the date of matriculation. The chancellor was directed to make arrangement with seme respectable bookseller for the supply of text-books and books required for examination. A number of statutes and regulations were agreed to. Gbahamstown, March 13, No new find has been reported at Ohinemuri, and the discontent continues amongst the miners remaining about the township. Chbistchtjboh, March 13. The Volunteers here are complaining greatly of the worn-out condition of their rifles, and many threaten to resign unless other rifles are substituted. The rifles were served out twelve years ago, and were then second-hand. Mr Garrick obtained a rule nisi for a writ of prohibition in both the late convictions against cabmen. p
