DISCOVERY OF VALUABLE REEFS AT MACETOWN.

(From our own Correspondent.)

Macktown, March 10. Messrs Thomas Hall and party have: dis* covered a valuable quartz reef here, situated at the head of Rogers Gully and Twelvenule Creek.- The reef is about four to five *- e ®t in thickness, and from the specimens which the prospectors have procured, will run about three to four ounces to the ton. The stone is of the same description as that of the Nugget Reef at Skippers. Timber is convenient of access, and their will be no difficulty as regards waterpower. Little, however, can be done this season beyond thoroughly prospecting the ground. Mr T. Hall is well known in the Province as a successful prospector of reefs, having discovered the Nugget at Shotover and several others.

Some additional particulars of Hall and M'JSulty’a discovery are given by the ‘ Cromweu Argus —M‘£sulty says they found two reefs, one six feet in body, from both of which they took parcels of stone—in one case 19 ounces, in the other II ounces. This stone he brought down to Cromwell, crushed m a morter, and submitted the result to Mr Preshaw, Bank of Sew South Wales. The eleven ounce parcel of stone yielded over one grain of gold, while the larger piece of stone gave a little short of that quantity. These results Mr M'Nulty considers most satisfactory, as he feels confident the whole body of stone will yield up to the test average, it is therefore probable he and his mates will secure a right to the ground, and give it a thorough trial; The Twelve-mile has long been looked upon as a “ likely ” country for good reefs, and residents in the Arrow district were much annoyed because opportunity was not afforded Mr Ulrich to visit the locality while in the Lakes district.
