Mansford, Esq., R.M.) vu RU^ ENN £ 93, ~^ eor S e Adams was charged with this offence.-Constable Carter stated that yesterday afternoon prisoner’s wife called on him to come to her house, stating that her husband had taken a burning log from off the rue, and had threatened to beat her with it. On going to the house he spoke to the prisoner who said he would hammer his wife in spite of Cod or the devil. Witness then advised Mrs Adams to take refuge with a neighbor, and arrested prisoner, who was creating a disturbance in Beach street.—ln answer to the Bench prisoner stated that he was a little drunk, and might have acted as described. Mr Mansford said prisoner was a most disreputable drunken, loafing fellow, and squandered the earnings of his wife, a sober, industrious person, who had that morning called on him (his Worship) and Protection of the Court, in order that she might retain her earnings.
