PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Port Chalmers Town Council was held last night; present—TTfo Worship the Mayor, Councillors Dodson, M'Gregor, Asher, Menelaus, Rose, and M'Kenzie. The Mator explained that the meeting had been called for the purpose of taking into consideration the advisability of payment of advertising accounts due for licensing meetings. Cr. Dodson moved, and Or. _ M'Greoor seconded— “ That the minute refusing payment be recinded, and that the accounts for advertising be paid.” Cr. Asher desired to point that before a minute could be rescinded, a notice of motion to that effect must be given. The motion then lapsed. Cr. M'Greqor moved, and Cr. Dodson seconded, “That the further consideration of this matter lie over for a week; meanwhile the Town Clerk to be instructed to communicate by telegraph with Oamaru and Invercargill, and ascertain what steps the municipalities of those districts intend to take in this matter.” This motion was carried by the casting vote of the chairman. Cr. M'Geeqor moved that the Inspector be authorised to procure metal to finish Grey street. The following amendment, moved bj Cr. M‘Kenzie, was carried: “ That the works committee carry out their'former instructions as to forming this street.” A communication from Mr E. J. Saunders, architect, Dunedin, was read asking for information as to the base of the street line opposite the old Port Chalmers Hotel, and desiring to know if he should take the present kerb line facing the Custom-house as the fixed line, after allowing 10ft for pavement.—Cr. Asher moved that the letter be received, and the Town Clerk instructed to intimate to Mr Sanders that no base line had been laid down for the town, and that, consequently, the Council is not in a position to comply with his request. The meeting then adjourned.
