CRICKET.
To the Editor. Sir,— The Match Committee of the Dunedin Cricket Club will, no doubt, be very much alarmed at the appalling disclosures made by your valued correspondent “A regular attendant on the ground ” on the subject of cricket generally, and the selections of the said committee in particular. His strictures and sarcasms are so cutting and severe as to lead to the belief that the unfortunates thus pitilessly assailed by the withering scorn of the “llegular” will hide their diminished heads in some obscure corner during the rest of their natural lives, and eschew the noble gome from henceforth and for ever. Joking apart, however, I think it will be found on inquiry that your correspondent has been misinformed by “one who ought to know” with regard to the manner in which the fifteen were chosen by the Match Committee. His concluding remarks as to “honorary members and the public generally ” withdrawing their support from cricket, and his gratuitous advice to the committee about “ forgetting themselves and ruining the club,” I look upon as so much bunkum, and I think a discriminating public will endorse my opinion.—l am, &c., A Member oe the D.C.C. To the Editor. Sir,—l have read “Fair Play’s” lettei in this morning’s ; Guardian.’ Knowing what “A_ lover of the game,” &c., refers to, and having been present on the ground on Saturday, I endorse his remarks. “Fair Play ”is a coward in not signing his name ; but as it is evident he is working for the Tait-Oollinsou party, and with a certain object, I for the present will not disclose my colors—although I may be charged as a coward. In the meantime I beg to subscribe myself A Cricketer. Dunedin, February 23,
