GARRICK V. PYKE.

To the Edi for. Sib, In your report of this case lam marie to say that I “ advised the plain tiff to go to the Supreme Court, where he would get more money.” Your reporter must have misunderstood me ; and as f did not advise the plaintiff one way or the other, and do not wish it to be supposed that I am in the habit of fomenting a feud in any office with which I may be connected, I trust you will insert this correction. When asked by Mr Barton if I did not think it would have been better if he had taken the to the Supreme Court, my reply was “that 1 did not know anything at all about that; but no doubt it would have been better for him (Mr Barton), if he could get the costs out of his client. I —l am, &c,, _ , John J. Utting. Dunedin, February 23. [Mr Utting has, wilfully or otherwise, altered the wording of our report. It states that on Mr Garrick saying Messrs Barton and Sanders had “advised him to take the case m the Supreme Court,” Mr Utting “ told him he should take it there if be could get more money ” There is nothing in that report will bear the construction our correspondent now places on it, and our reporter asserts that his version was strictly correct, Mr Utting s remark about Mr Barton’s getting more costs out of Ills client was made subsequently.— Ed. E.S.
