RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Tuesday, February 23. (Before T. A. Hansford, Esq., R.M.; and Dr Dryadale, J.P.) Drunkenness.—Ellen Shehau, for drunkenness, was let off with a caution, and for making use of obscene language was ordered to find two sureties of L 5 each to keep the peace for three months. Resisting the Police.—Cornelius Shohan. husband of the last named prisoner, for obstructing the police in the execution of their duty, was fined 20s, or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. civil cases. James Middleton v, D. Proudfoot, claim under the Contractors Debt Act, for L 39 2s.— Mr Chapman for the plaintiff, and Mr Haggitt for the defendant, who pleaded not indebted. After the evidence of the plaintiff, and there being no appearance of the defendant, who had been served with a subpheena, Mr Chapman asked for an adjournment for a week, which was granted.
