WASTE LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Board was held this morning; present—The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Bastings, Butterworth, Ciark, Reid, and Strode. The Chief Surveyor reported on Messrs Gillies and Street’s application for a license to occupy part of run G4, not included in the Tois-Tois Hundreu. Mr Doughty, on behaif f f Mr Muir, of the adjoining run 257. opposed, To be sold by auction under clause 144. The Chief Surveyor reported on Mr T. Murray’s application for 60 acres on run 254, saying that it had been sot apart by Government as a reserve for endowment purposes. It appeared, however, that it was now withdrawn from reserve, approved. Ranger Innis forwarded his resignation as Ringer of the Ulterior.—Mr Strode regretted tlm loss of so intelligent an officer, and the resignation was accepted, Messrs Bopplewell and Baxter asked the terms on which they could obtain a license for 2 acres, Kaitangata township reserve, for a slaughter-yard. " Referred to the Tokomairiro Inspector of ; laughter-yards for advice. Mr J. Tolaaie asked permission to construct a water-race thirty-one chains long, adjoining his property at Gatlin’s River. Survey to be f .a w -irded. Mr J. Deen.'j asked to he allowed to aoply for the south-eastern part of section 51, Waihemo, hounded by sections IG and 17, Dunedin road and cross road. Refused. Memorandum of Provincicl Solicitor was read as to the action to be taken with^re-
gardto lands leased to Mr Pollock, at Popo tunoa, advising that proceedings be taken against the latter. Decided that the Chief Commissioner take legal proceedings. Memorandum of A. Archbeld and the Chief Purveyor, regarding a mill site at Mafcaura township, referred to the Board. Deferred. The Government recommended the Board to want the coal lease to Mr E. A. Doo'ev, at Kawarau, withheld on account of being •; reserve. Lease to be issued on the uana terms. The Government lecommonded the appointment of Mr HuiurerforJ to leak after Glenoamaru bush reseive. Approved. Ranger Huy ban reported on sections 43 block 11, Moeraki. Read. Mr j.. F. M'Keuzie asked that the sale o 1 1,000 acres of land* (under the deferred payment system) on February 24 be postponed for fourteen days. Impossible, Mr C. Co)dough, f.r Mr R. Walker, asked the restoration of the timber seized by the Ranger on behalf of the Board, o i pay meat of the licence fees. Referred to tin Ranger for his report. Mr D. F. Main recommended Mr P. A. Connelly as Ranger for the Naseby, Deei Dell, and Hydd blocks, which are largely squatted upon with legal right. Referred to Government. Mr W. Price acknowledged receipt of notice to quit, and pleaded the small extern of land nos lawfully in his possession. Read. Mr B. Short applied for a twenty-om years’ lease of 350 acres on run 217 a, fo? slate mining purposes. Messrs *L C ib'H and D. Drummond applied for section 34, block 67, Clarendon, formerly temporarily reserved. Mr Hugh Maclean appeared for applicants. Deferred to Ranger for report. The Government submitted for approval a lease to Mr J. M‘Cormick of sections I and 2, block 2, Kavi arau. Approved. The appeal case of Logan v. The Board was considered in its decision with regard t application lodged by Mr Logan for land at Waikoikoi. The Board approved of the alterations made by the Provincial Solicitor, The following were appointed arbiters re Sir F. D Bell’s land. Deferred t j Chiei Commissioner. Mr D. H, Miller, for Mr Jeffrey, of Saddle Hil', complained of thistles being allowed to grow on section 53, block 8, Dunedin am: East 'i aieri, a hush reserve, and asked that means be taken to prevent their seeding and spreading over the adjoiuing properties. The Chief Commissioner nad always untie c tood that thistles improved the land. The Board could -.o nothing xa the matter. Mr J. White wrote relative to the purchase of a small piece of land in block 19, Tuapska East, and referred to the *v arden’s remark, thereon. Postponed till surveyed. The Chief Surveyor forwarded a memorandum on an appicatiou granted :.y the Board on August 19 1874 to Mr W. Young, for a tree planting area, block I, Warepa stating that the land was chiefly covered with dead timber, (’noted.
