THE ATHENÆUM MEETING.
To the Editor. Siß,—Several members of the Athenaeum have, since the last meeting, expressed it as their opinion that the report for the last year Was not adopted at the meeting. After the motion for the adoption of the report, and censuring the committee for having excluded certain papers from the free table, had been moved and seconded, an amendment was proposed to the effect that the latter portion of the original motion should be struck out. This amendment was put and carried, but nothing was done in reference to the original motion, and it was never yet put to the meeting. As I am of opinion that, after the amendment was carried, any member was at liberty to move another amendment upon the motion, it could not therefore be disposed of by the carrying of the amendment. Perhaps some person who is better up in Parliamentary practice will enlighten your readers in reference to this.—l am, &c., Subscriber. Dunedin, February 3.
