RAILWAY SURVEYS.
To the Editor. Sir, —A rumor has reached me to the effect that certain railway surveys to be undertaken by the Provincial Government before the ensuing meeting of the. Council have been g:ven privately to Messrs Barr and diver, surveyors at the rate of Ll9 per mile. As lam in private practice as a civi engineer, I consider mvself in duty hound to take cognizance of such a rumor and to give it publicity, in order thatjit may be contradicted if it is untrue. 1 can scarcely believe that action to this extent could possibly be taken by the Provincial t- ecretary on behalf even of his mos> int mate friends, without duly weighing the consequences. For, independently of thr exorbitant rate, the rumor states that has been given per mile,, tbc principle of giving suh rosa hem fits is a very objectionable one, and sbouldbe nipped in ;he hud —( am. &•: , Legitimate • ractice.
