At the close'of the sixth match Wil; son, P.C.N.8., led by three points, Blythe, . A.C., being second, and there was great excitement, the result of every shot being anxiously looked fdr. At the completion of the 200 yards range Wilson headed the list by six points.. January 30, 10 a; nr., Heavy rain.fell during the night, and the ground is wet and slippery. Orders were to commence firing at six o’clock this mojrdrig, but as the weather was very threatening nothing was done. Heavy clouds are still passing over, but the Colonel decided to go on at the 40Q yards range as the men were just marching off. The Cavalry will follow at the 400 and 500 yard ranges, and should the rain keep, off, the winners of both belts will be declared this afternoon. Wilson is expected tc win 1 the Infantry belt, although, should he miss a single shot, he has ten men very close, ready to take advantage of it. The position of some of these will be materially altered during the firing at the next three ranges! At present Auckland has three men in "the first fifteen, Thames has three, Otago three, and there are six Constabulary men. It is expected that at the close of the firing a small-bore match will be got up, in which J. W. Walker, Christie, oskins, Wilson, Goldie, and others will take part; also a nationality match between ten men from England, Ireland, and Scotland ; and the Thames Rifle Association match, at which all representatives will be allowed to fi re. Considerable interest as to the result of the. ■championship is evinced, and visitors, are already crowding on the ground. , ..
