Auckland, January 28. The Rev. Dr Wallis’s books, seized in satisfaction of the education rate, were offered at auction to-day. 'i he auction room was crowvled. The rev. gentleman’s pamphlet on “The unjust tax,” published at sixpence, was put up first. An admirer bid 575, the total amount of the tax and costs for the pamphlet. The judgment of the Court being thus satisfied, the other books were handed back to their owner amid cheers.

. The regatta to-morrow is absorbing attention. A good race was expected between the schooners Peerless and Albatross, which competed at last Lyttelton regatta, but, owing to his dissatisfaction with one of the rules, the owner of the Albatross declined to enter, thus spoiling the schooners’ race. The chief interest rests in the race for yachts of over nine tons. Nine clipper yachts have entered. The Fleetwing, which won the last regatta, with the Winona, a Dunedin yacht, second, is favorite, A splendid yacht, the Secret, finished by Niccol last week, is expected by her owners to eclipse everything, The Thames crew are favorites for the gig race.
