{From our own Coiresponden's. ) Auckland. January 26. The American whaler California arrived at Russell for medical advice for one of the sailors, a Portugese, who was seriously injured on the 15th, whilst capturing a large sperm whale. The whale stove the boat in and broke the Portuguese's right arm between the shoulder and the elbow, forcing the fractured bone through the flesh and severely injuring the side. He is under the care of the doctor at Russell. The California has 450 barrels of sperm oil from an eight months’ cruise. She reports having spoken the Benjamin Cummins, from Bedford, with 1,200 barrels of sperm oil, and the barque Derwentwater, from Hobart Town, as clean.
