WASTE LAND BOARD.
The usual weekly meeting of the Board was held to-day; present—Messrs Thomson (in the chair), Strode, Butterworth, Clark, and Eeid. Mr Walter B. Cairns, through Messrs Webb u^on » applied for protection for six months to prospect for coal on the Kuraio Kun, Waitaki. Agreed to, A request to have an upset rent or price fixed for block 17, Mataura Bridge, formerly applied for by Mr J. E. Black, as a site for a flour mill and spade factory, was postponed for consideration. , Mr Ralph .Shaw, on behalf of Committee of the Mining and Progress Association, requested that the sales of the township of vVaipaia be held at the Warden’s office. Swuzers, instead of, as formerly, at the Mirvey office, La wrence. The Board agreed to appoint a district officer there, referring appointment of auctioneer to the Government, The advice of Mr Thos. G. Betts. Mayor - f Queenstown, on behalf of the Corporation on a n application by Mr H. Manders for a jetty site, at Queenstown, known as Rees’s Area, 100 ft x 100 ft from low-water mark, Having been taken, it was agreed to grant an annual license, to be purchased at LI per annum, on condition that a jetty be erected within six months, failing which, that the license be not renewed. Messrs Andrew Anderson and Charles Warde applied for a license for twenty acres of burned bush, Hawea, and offering L 5 per annum. Applicants to be informed of the regulations which cannot be departed from in this case.
A notice of appeal by Mr James Macassey. for Mr Jataes Logan, against the decision of the Board of the 11th inst., with regard to applications lodged by him on the 7th inst for lands at Waikoiki, was read. At the Board s meeting on the 11th inst., Mr Connell for Mr Logan, applied for the decision of the Board on Mr Logan’s application for the purchase of the lands in Waikoikoi 'undred, and the Board then passed the following resolution : “ That, inasmuch as the land iu the Waikoikoi Hundred had been set apart as lands of special value, in terms of A he i. S ?So of the ofca g° Waste Lauds Act, iS/2, the land was not open for application when this application was lodged. Ihe Board therefore declines to entertain the application.” The report of Mr Connell on the illegal occupation of Crown lands, being part of deferred payment block, run 205, was read. It was decided that notice be seat by the Crown Commissioner to the two persons referred to—Dowling and Price-requesting them to vacate forthwith, otherwise proceedings will be taken against them. The request ef Mr John Mouat on behalf of the S witzers Freehold Gold Mining Company (Limited) for six months’ extension of ,V? e > to piospect for coal or lignite on Mr S ° n 8 run, was agreed to. The Government recommended that sections 40, 41, 42, 46, 47, and 48, block 6, Tuapeka West, should bo sold as land of special value at 25s per acre, having been improved by fencing; valuations for improveivfo to J 36 to upset price. Also that the Board, with the consent of the Superintendent, should withdraw from sale section 33, blook 2, Tuapeka West, pending the action_of the Provincial Council. Agreed to. Mr Hugh J. Finn, on behalf of Mr Theodore Baker, asked on what terms the Board would grant mm a lease of twenty acres of Lower Wakatip Bush at Dooley Greek, near Kingston Referred to the District Land Officer for his advice.

usual way; and whether the surveyed sections in Kaiwera, Pukerau, Waipahee, and Kuriwao hundreds, upon which no improvements had been erected, are to be open for selection at 20s per acre. It was minuted that the Board had no information. The Government recommended that sections 1 to 13 (both inclusive), block 4, and sections 2 to II (both inclusive), block 3, L'unback district, should be withd awn from sa-e, and that they should be advertised open for application on and after Ist March, 1875. Agreed to.
