Bow Bells, Christmas and Neiv Year's part, and Christmas Supplement, and The FamVy Herald J. Braith waite, High street, Dunedin. In ‘B w Bells,’ “ The Goldsmith’s Wife ” ami other tales are continued ; and a new story, entitled “To Hank through Crime,” by K. J. Griffiths, is commenced this mouth. Judging by the glance we have given to it, we think it is nut wanting in what is known as the “sensational.” ouseliold receipts.’* “Chess Problems,” “Half-and-half Fashionables,” and oiber articles will be found amusing by those who do not feel inclined for hard reading The Christmas Supplement contains a story entitled “Veiled in Whine.” The seem l of the tale is laid in . ’ ales, and the story opens with a prologue, in which we are told of a man who first thrusts the body of a beautiful young girl into the hollow trunk of a yew tree, then manages to kill his groom, and drives away, leaving him for the villagers to find and bury; the whole incidents of the story throughout are unlikely, weird in the extreme, but still interesting, 3he fashions and patterns for needlework are good, especially the colored fashion plate and the de signs for tab e c ive.rs and ottomans in Bt-rlin woolwork. We had n-arly omitted to mention a pretty oil print of Sir David Wilkie's picture “Pep o’’ Diy.” “At War with Herself ” is finished in the ‘ Herald* this month ; “ Mildred Trevanion ” and many other tales are continued. The short on scientific affairs, household management, varieties, and the thousand and one different subjects into which the publishers of this magazine go. are quite up to the mark, and will be found readable and useful.
