CITY COUNCIL.
The adjourned meeting of the City Council was held yesterday afternoon at three o'clock, there being present—His Worship the Mayor (in tho chair), Messrs Reeves, Barron, Morcer, Fish, Grant, Walter, Beck, Carroll, and Prosser.

On the clause of the Committee recommending that the l*uJ selepted by Mr Kennedy in the Gracn Island district fpr a manure depOt site bo purchased at a coat of L6o'» comi g on for consideration, Cr Walter suggested that a couple of hundred loads of sanu be obtained lor the purpose of abating tho nuisance at Anderson’s Bay.but Cr. Barron pointed out that the experiment had been tried in Christchurch, and found to be a failure. In ihe course ■ f the discussion which followed, Cr. I-BCK, Fish, and Walter opposed the purchase of the propos d site, and Cr Carroll moved that a plan of the site should be laid on the for a fortnight, and, to give the counoi lore an opportunity of forming an opinion as to the suitability or otherwise of the laud, moved that cousideiatiun of the matter be deferred till the next meeting of the Council. This was ultimately carried by the casting vote i f the a, ay or ; and it was agreed to give powet to the Works ' oromittee to take steps for abating the nuisance at the Anderson s Bay depdt.
finance committee. The report of this committee was brought up and adopted. Reeves, it was resolved that the Surveyor should be in--iructed to prepare plans showing the position of public ana private drains throughout the city, and that an advertisement be inserted m the papers, asking for information on the subject. The proposition of Cr. Isaac, that each committee should elect its own chairman, vav earned, the Mayor stating that he approved of the proposition. The Council rescinded its resolution of September 30, that no new business should be taken after ten © clock, but negatived Cr. IISH g proposition to meet weekly t r.
