RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Wednesday, January 20. (Before T. A. Mansford, Esq., R.M.)
Drunkenness.— William Sheddan, not appearing when called, had his bail (40s) forfeited ; Charles Lockhart was fined 10s, with the option of twenty-four hours’ imprisonment.
Obscene Language. —Francis Parkes was fined 40s; in default fourteen days’ imprisonment, with hard labor.
Stealing Boots. —Edw. Walsh was charged, on the information of Joseph Hatt, with stealing from the Universal Hotel, on or about the ISth January, one pair of boots, of the value of 17s. —Prosecutor said that, while stopping at the Universal Hotel last week, he. lost a pair of boots. He saw prisoner wearing them last night, and gave information to the police.— Constable Thomson said the robbery of the boots having been reported to him by last witness he requested the accused to accompany him to the Police Station ; but when they got as far as the Universal Hotel prisoner ran into the house, and when witness again saw him he had no boots on. The boots were afterwards found in a private bedroom—Prisoner was seat to gaol for six weeks.
Stealing Beer. Henry Vesey plcadecl guilty to a charge of stealing a bottle of beer, of the value ot Is, from the Red Dion Brewery. —Sub-Inspector Mallard said that the theft was a peculiar one. When the prosecutor left ijse brewery, at ten o’clock last night, he locked up the place, and at three o’clock this morning the premises were found open, and prisoner upon them, with a bottle of beer in his possession. Prisoner was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
