THE SAN FRANCISCO
SERVICE. The following is from the ‘ Sydney Morning Herald’ of the sth inst :—“The tempo rary contract between the Postmaster-General and the A. S. N. Company is to extend over a period of seven months, and the mails will be carried dining that time by the steamships Mikado, City of Melbourne, Macgregor, an* 1 Cypbrenes. For the present there will be no connection with Fiji, the only intermediate ports of call being -• uckland and Honolulu. othing has transpired as to what is intended relative to the permanent contract. It may be that the statement in the New Zealand papers regarding Mr Bussell’s trip H me to secure the purchase of the boats ordered by Hall is correct. Even if this should be confirmed, it is likely that the new steamers will start from Sydney and Auckland alternately.”
