Wellington, January 12. A Grahamstown correspondent of the 4 Evening Star,’ writing from Ohisemuri, says that the notices issued by M r Mackay and others against prospecting are disregarded, and the Natives offer no opposition. One party showed nice specimens of alluvial gold, but no guarantee was given that it was obtained there. One prospector who has been out some time expresses doubts as to the presence of gold, but reports fine specimens of ore. The Parawai Natives are about to form themselves into a_ volunteer company. It is stated that a special prize will be offered at the Colonial prize meeting for competition by Natives. Nelson, January 12. At the Supreme Court, iu the case of Wymond v. National Insurance Company, an action to recover L4OO and interest on an insurance policy on furniture destroyed by fire in April last, the question at issue was whether!the risk had been transferred from Wymond’s shop, which was burnt, to his private dwelling house, A verdict was given for plaintiff for the amount claimed. The Mayor, Mr Dodson, has resigned, on the ground that lie did not receive the support of the Council. {From our own Correspondent.) Arrow. January 12. An inquiry with closed doors is being held as to the alleged insubordination on the part of Sergeant Hunt, The body of the Chinaman drowned at Matatapu has been brought here for inquest.
