HARBOR BOARD.

At a meeting of *hia body this afternoon the principal discussion was upon the report of the Finance Committee, which recommended that Mr Simpson’s whole and undivided time should be devoted to his duties as Engineer to the Board. The Government asked that Mr Simpson should superintend the completion of the works initiated by him, viz., light railways, and Naseby and Waipori sludge channels, and it was stated that Mr Simpson was himself anxious to carry on the railway works initiated by him. On Mr Tewsley’s suggestion, the Finance Committee were authorised to take steps, if they saw fit, to place LIO.OOO worth of debentures on the Loudon Stock Exchange. Mr MM ermid objected, on the ground that the additional power was premature. The name of Mr E B Cargill was added to the Finance Committee. The engineer’s recommendation that an inspector of works as L 6 a week, and a draughtsman at L 4 a week should be employed, was referred to the Works Committee for report
