THE CALEDONIAN GAMES.
We give a report of the remaining items < f Saturday’s sports. The number of people present wus fully 3,300, but amongst those there must have been many mean-spirited and miserly-inclined individuals, for the money taken at the gates amounted to only f B2. As the Society gave upwards of L6O in prizes, and have also to pay other expenses, the sum to be handed over to the Benevolent Institution will not reach the expectations generally formed. The Artillery Band gave its services, and contributed greatly to the success of the meeting. The anticipated assistance of the dancers at the first two days’ games was not given, but Messrs Buchanan, Hannigan, Conolly, and Dixon gave several capital dances. The public, as a rule, were excluded from the ring, as is only right, but why the stewards permitted it to form the scene for a display of bounce ou the part of some betting men and their followers we cannot imagine - unless a pugilistic encounter was to be included in the programme of amusements.

In the second round Jacobsen wperceptibly gaining on Macgregor, who passed Smith in the third, Jacobsen also pissed Smith almost immediately, and he retired, while the scratch man went ahead aud strided in front of Macgregor, amid tremendous cheering. The two then spurted alternately, soon catching up Campbell, but not Stuart, who was pegging away steadily in front. During the fourth round the three kept pretty well together, Macgregor and Campbell wasting a good deal of energy in pointing out to the judges imaginary faults in Jacobsen’s walking, but in the tif-.h the last named took a decided lead, passing Stuart also, and this order was continued till the sixth round. Macgregor then went ahead of Stuart, but could not lessen the gap between himself and Jacobsen, who was going in fine style. At the commencement of the eighth and last round Jacobsen was leading by thirty yards, aud Macgregor, pulling himself together, tried aU he knew to catch him, but the more he tried the wider the gap became, for Jacobsen put on an answering spurt and came in a winner by half a lap—HO yards. Macgregor was second and Stuart third. Campbell had evidently thought too lightly of the latter, but in the last forty yards Stuart came out well, walked Campbell down, and took third money. For the final heat Wain refused to start, very properly objecting to both Burke and Bennett being allowed to dourest it, iaHead of running off their tie apd the winner
