The Harbor Co.’s p.s. Samson arrived at midnight from Oamaru, and steamed alongside the Waikato to discharge 200 bales of wool. The s.s. Phoebe arrived at Port Chalmers at 1.45 p.m. to-day from the North. She left Onehunga at 3.15 p.m. on the Ist, called at Taranaki, Nelson, Picton, Wellington, and Lyttelton, which port she left at 4.30 p.m. on the 6th, and arrived as above. The barque Speedwell, twenty-four days on the passage, arrived from Kaipara to-day. After clearing Cook Strait on the ninth day out, she was driven back to Blind Bay by heavy southerly weather. Lost several days off Banks Peninsula by heavy southerly and light weather, and arrived this afternoon. The s.s. Express arrived at 10.50 this morning from her usual trip to the Bluff. She left Port Chalmers at 1 p.m. on Sunday, and arrived at the Bluff next clay at 8 p.m., having had a strong S.E. wind and sea. Left on her return trip at 5.30 p.m. yesterday, and arrived as above. Captain Christian reports passing a barque off Taieti Head, working to the northward. The p.s. Comerang arrived at eight this morning from the Bluff. She left Port Chalmers on the 23rd December, and arrived at the Bluff next morning ; since then has been engaged carrying cargo between Riverton and the Bluff, and also made an excursion trip on New Year’s Day from the Bluff to Riverton. Took in a quantity of grain, and left the Bluff for Port Chalmers at 11 a.m, yesterday, and arrived as above. The Harbor Co.’s s.s. Beautiful Star arrived at 9.50 am. this morning, and steamed alongside the ship Calypso to discharge wool. She left Lyttelton wharf for Timaru with forty immigrants from the ship Crusader at 6 p.m. on the 4th, but shortly after leaving encountered a heavy S.E. gale aud high sea, and ran for Le Bon Bay, where she arrived at midnight, remained there for seven hours, and arrived at Timaru at 10.30 p.m. on the sth ; left for Port Chalmers at 7.40 last night, and arrived as above.
