RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Saturday, January 2. (Before J. Logan and J. Brown, Esqs., J.P.’s) Drunkenness.— Charles Black, an immigrant by the Nelson, was discharged with a caution ; G orge Stokes was fined 10s, with the alternative of three days’ imprisonment; Thomas Hastie, 20s, with a like alternative, and for assaulting Constable Scott while in the execution of his duty L 3, ©r one month’s imprisonment.
BSTRUCTINO the Police. Thomas Tuana, for obstructing Constable Scott while arresting prisoner Hastie was fined L 3, or in default one month’s imprisonment. Rescuing Prisoni-jrs. Robert Hercus. an immigrant by the Nelson, for rescuing prisoner Stokes and assaulting Constable Rooney, was sent to gaol for five weeks. James Hay, also an immigrant by the Nelson, for rescuing a prisoner and exciting Stokes to re. ist while in legal custody at Oaversham on January 1, was fined L2, or one month’s imprisonment. Wind .w Breaking — Christian Le France was charged with wilfully breaking a pane of glass of the value of LlO in the window of the Bull and Mouth Hotel, Maclagean street, at 12 45 am. on the Ist January. Prisoner went to the door of the hotel at the time stated and asked for a drink, and on being refused admission, as it was after closing time, he used foul language to Mr Jacobs, and on being forced back from the door said. “1 will have satisfaction for tnis,” and deliberately went in the direction of the window and struck it with his baud, breaking it. Prisoner was fined L2, with the option of a month’s imprisonment, and was ordered to pay the amount of damage done.
