Friday, Ist January, being a Post Office holiday, all mails for despatch that day will close at eight o’clock this evening. Southland and Australian Colonies.— Per Alhambra, on Saturday, January 2, at 4.30 p.m. Southland. —Per Express, on Saturday, January 2, at 4,30 p.m. Northern' Ports ®p New Zealand.—Per Taranaki, on Monday, January 4, at 2 p.m. Timaru, Akaroa, Lyttelton, Christchurch, and Westland.— Per Bruce, on Monday, January 4, at 4.15 p.m. The steamer Alhambra is expected to leave the Bluff at 8 p.m. on Saturday, tbe 2nd prox. Telegrams for the Australian Colonies or Europe, via Java cable, will be received at this office, for transmission to Bluff, up till 8 p.m. on that day. ARCH. BARR. .
