RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Thursday, December 31. (Before/. Logan and J. Brown, Esqs., J.P.’b) Drunkenness.— John Henry Harding, a man oi color, was fined 12. with the alternative of fourteen days’ imprisonment for this »ffence ; and for assaulting and resist ing Constable M'LauchHn, he was further fined L 5. or two months’ imprisonment. Vagrancy. Annie M* Samara, an “ Asiatic,” charged with being a rogue and vagjbond, having been previously convicted as :n idle and disorderly person, was sent to gad for twelve months. —- Ixorbitant Cab pare, —Geo. Blackman, caoman, was charged by Robert Stout with having, on December 26, unlawfully desanded from him the sum of 13s, for the lire of his hackney carriage, for a distance not exceeding four miles, and for the time, not amounting to one hour, being more than the proper sum for the hire of the same.— Complainant engaged defendant at St David street on Boxing Oay to drive him and two others to A Mandate, and for this was charged 13s (including one shilling toll fee). By the scale of authorised charges ten shillings was the highest fare which could be demanded —Defendant was fined in the nommal penalty of Is and costs, as complainant did not press for a fine.—Mr Ed. Cook, who appeared for Mr Stout, refused to t-ke any professional fee, and Mr Stout asked that the overcharge which he was entitled to receive might be placed in the Prior Box.
