The barque Comet, from Newcastle, was signalled at the Heads this morning, and sailed up with a fine N.E. breeze and anchored off Deborah Bay. She will probably proceed to Oamaru to discharge. She left Newcastle on she 17th inst., had light northerly winds for the first three days, then variables and fine weather until close to the West Cape, when she got a strong N.E. breeze which continued for two days; passed the Snares on the morning of the 25th, and in the evening encountered a heavygale from the N. W. with violent squalls, which continued until off Gape Saunders on Sunday morning, when the wind died away to a calm, the vessel drifting to the northward. Yesterday sighted a large immigrant ship off Moeraki, and got a fresh N.N.W. wind last night, which enabled her to reach the Heads this morning, and sailed up as above. We thank Captain Cooper for Newcastle papers up to day of sailing.
