As we stated on Saturday the Cap match —Tradesmen v. Press—was finished that day, and resulted in the latter winning with six wickeis to score. The Tradesmen were shorthauded, and played with half-a-dozen substitutes. For the Press Aris got 17, and Allen 26 (not out).—At Tokomairiro on Saturday an eleven of the Albion C.C. (Macfarlane and D. A. Kbodes playing with them) met the ‘ Bruce Herald.’ team (for whom Downes and Lane played) Dunedin made 96 and 82, Tokomairiro 119 and 73 the latter thus winning by 14 runs. For Tokomairiro Downes made 45 and 15, Dickson 17 and 14, and Lane 21 and II; and for the Albion Hutchinson 21 and 29, Kirk 20 in the first innings, D. K. Khodes ifi and 14. Mactarlane 21 (and not out) in the first innings, and J. (joudis 12 in the second innings. Mr Buchanan umpired for Dunedin and Mr Currie for Tokomairiro. In the evening the town team was entertained at a capital supper at St. George’s Hall (Mr Philp, of the Commercial Hotel, catering), and during the proceedings the captain of the * Brace Herald ’ team (Mr J. M. Perrier) presented to Mr Downes a handsomely worked smoking cap, the gift of his wife to the highest scorer in the mated. The return match will be played in town some time in February.
