On Saturday Sergemt Christie, of the Ease Taieri, and Lieutemut Blatch, of the West Taieri, the only men who had not tired in the final sta e, fired for choice of Co'onial Representatives. The weather wns bad, and prevented anything like average shooting being made ; but the men just succeeded in qualifying. Subjoined am the scores : - 200 yds. 400 yds. 500 yds. 600 yds. Tl. For this result our vo’unteers cannot be blame 1, considering the wretched state of the weather which prevailed while the majority of the competitors fired. The returns show a considerable improv» men! on last year’s shooting. Then, although nineteen men made 83 points and over, the highest score was 90, and this with averagely good weather; this year, though only ten in. n qualified (83 points being the minimum), the hj gnest made 94. another 92, a third 91, and a fourth 90, while the weather was simply wretched during the grearer part of the competition—so bad, indeed, that two o' the compai ies- the Fortobello Liiflea and Artillery—fired under protest, while the three men who qualified for the Waikouaiti Rifles retired for the same reason, a ter m k ing good r suits at the first two ranges. Although the Kelt is looked upon as a certainty for the Lbamcs thirteen local men having qua ili-d, yet we have every hope of seeing either Goldie, Wilson.
