TESTIMONIAL TO MR REYNOLDS.

To the Editor. Sir,—On reading over Mr Fish’s letter in last night’s Star, I and a number of old Colonial residents in our district heartily endorse his views with regard to a befitting testimonial to Mr Reynolds f«r his long public services, and hope that a public meeting will be a proper occasion to give exprtsnon and support to carry out this purpose. We would suggest that Mr Fish, who has iiitiited this laudable motion, should act as hon. secretary, and kindly carry out this good intention.—l am, &c., David Andrews, sen. Green Island, Decerni er 15. To the Editor, Sir,—The proposal of Mr Fish in last night’s Star to present Mr Reynolds with a testimonal for his public services extending over so many years is well deserving of support by the citizens, and I trust will be carried out. Public men too often meet with thaaklessnesa irom those they serve, and the cousiquence is that many good meu decline to enter public life. The commercial interests of Dunedin are such that I think she ought alwai s to be represented by gentlemen like vlr Reynolds, who £ believe has had very considerable mercantile experience, and is capable of taking a wide aud comprehensive view of a subject; but it is generally this class of men who show the most aversion to public life. Hoping this matter will not be allowed to drop, but be energetically carried tbiougb. I am, &c, „ . Citizen. Dunedin, December 15.
