CRICKET.
Two matches were played on the Oval on Saturday, the principal being between the eleven that proceed to Oamaru on New Year’s Day and an eleven of the D.C.C. The former made 51; Macdonnell with 23, and Park with 10. being the only ones who succeeded in getting double figures. The other eleven made 129, with the loss of seven wickets ; D. K. Rhodes getting 45, C. Kettle 45, and Macfarlane 20. The Oamaru team was terribly weak in bowling. A team from the ‘Guardian’ office played an eleven selected from the establishments of Messrs Mills, Dick, and Co. and Fergusson and Mitchell. The ‘Guardian’ eleven won easily, making 108 to their opponents’ 47.
The match to cake place at Oamaru, on the Ist and 2nd January next, is likely to prove an interesting game. The following are the names of the players in the re spective teams :—■ Dunedin : Messrs Allen, Austin, Barlow, Fenwick, Fuller, Macdonnell, Newberry, Park, FT. Rhodes, Rose, and Sampson. Oamaru : Messrs. E. Booth, C. Fenwick, Holdsworth. H. Honour, W. Maude, Reade, Rice, Sumpter, A. Y. Smith, Tempest, andW. Young. The Albion Club is likely to send a team to play at Tokomairiro on Christmas Day. The Canterbury selection committee, Messrs Fuller, Sweet, and Ollivier, have decided to select the team to represent Canterbury in the match with Otago from among the following : —Messrs S. Alpe, W. H. Arlington, T. S. Baker, 0. C. Corfe, J. D’Emrlen, E. Fowler, •I. Fowler, E, T. A Fuller, H. H. Lough nan, Gr. Lee, T. R. Moore, E P. Maples, W. F. Wilson, A. M. Ollivier, E. G. J. Stevens, J. Soutor, T. S. Sweet, A C. Wilson, and J. Wood.
