Captain Goldie and Lieut. Wilson, both of the l o t Chalmers Naval Baigade, fired in die final competition for representatives at the Wakari range this morning. Their scores were as follow : 200 yds 400 yds 500 yds GOO yds Tl. Lieut. Wilson 4444444 4333324 2333333 3234333-91 Capt. Captain Goldie and Ideut. Wilson not only fired over a strange range, having been at the last moment deprived of the U'-e "f their own, bgt the weather was so bad, owing to the heavy run and want of light, that at 500 yards they had to stop firing and light a fire behind the target. Major Atkinson superintended the firing, Tne Wakari Rifles fire at their own range to-morrow. TALL SCORES ACCOUNTED FOR. Recent telegrams stated that some of the Thames Volunteers had scored 97, 96, and so on in the District Representative Competition. It now turns out that they fired at targets with a centre a foot too large, and to this “Bulls Eye,” writing to the Auckland ‘ Herald,’ adds the following “It is stated as a fact, by those who ought to know, that for the last two competitions at least, the shootists at Tararu have received every assistance in their endeavors to pass the minimum qualification for representatives, and that the champion and ‘ second chain* pioa’ er 1872 were only lucky enough to touch the qualification (70 points) by the clandestine addition of a point each added to their score. I trust no such conduct will need to be complained of this yeai.”— We might mention that to prevent anything of the kind being done here, Major Atkinson remains at the target and measures it after each shot.
