FATAL ACCIDENT AT THE TAIERI.

{From the Bruce Herald ) We regret having to record the occurrence of a fatal accident in the laieri Kiver jesterday afternoon. A man n/imed Henry Higgins, in the employment of M- MTndoe, st.ireiveeper, was coming up the river with another man in a boat. They were sailing, and foolishly had the sheet tied. A sudden Squall struck the boat and capsised her. Both men succeeded in getting on the bottom of the boat, when Higgins, who was a notoriously good swimmer, jumped into the water, took his coat off while there, and then struck out for land, but before reaching the bank threw up his arras and sank. The man on the boat was shortly afterwards rescued, and search being made, the body of Higgins was recovered.
